Nestled just metres from the chaotic crossroads of Camberwell Green lies a whitewashed, wood-clad haven: Lumberjack Cafe. Boasting a bright yet simplistic interior, this pint-sized cafe is well-loved by locals, the friendly baristas chatting warmly to anyone who wanders in. Students and remote workers can happily while away the hours at one of their snug tables; the atmosphere is laid-back, homely, and hugely motivating.
Although visited primarily for its delicious, creamy coffees, Lumberjack also offers a small brunch-style menu, including dishes such as their hearty shakshuka and their fresh avocado on sourdough. The counter is also lined with a range of cakes, breads and pastries for those looking for something a little lighter.
In-keeping with South-East London’s intrinsic sense of community, Lumberjack encourages local artists to sell their work and their sketches within the cafe. You can find examples of these pieces adoring the walls above you.
There is also a book exchange shelf located in the back room, encouraging locals to take a book as they replace it with one of their own.
This emphasis placed upon local life and building a supportive community is one of the many things that make this particular area of London such a popular area to live.
If you find yourself in the Camberwell or Peckham area, make sure to pop into Lumberjack for a delicious brunch or an artisan coffee. During the colder winter months, it’s the perfect cosy spot to hide away from the biting wind; in the summer, sit yourself outside and enjoy the bustle of the city around you!
