Founded in the 1920s, this dainty, elegant coffee house named Vete-Katten is one of the most well-known in Stockholm. At the heart of this female-founded business lies a passion for patisserie, evident from the wide glass counter, whose shelves display row upon row of beautifully-decorated pastries and desserts. Stepping into this whitewashed building truly feels like taking a step back in time, the interior still reminiscent of its early-20th-century roots. Light marble and brass detailing punctuates the creams and whites of the decor, its simplicity drawing attention instead to the main event: its pastries.

Approaching the counter, your eyes can’t help but wander towards the more traditionally-Swedish buns, sitting neatly in wooden boxes to the right of the main cabinets. The vast selection of flavours, along with the delicate, French desserts, make for a tough decision. However, with pastry chefs boasting years of expertise and dedication, you’re guaranteed something delicious, whatever you choose.

Offering also a range of teas and infusions, along with coffees and hot chocolates, Vete-Katten is one of Stockholm’s most popular spots for breakfast. It is also arguably the best place in town for a classic, sugar-coated afternoon tea. From the coffee house’s ideally central location on Kungsgatan, you are within easy walking distance of both the Norrmalm shopping district and the picturesque old town, Gamla Stan. Anyone with a sweet tooth should make sure to add Vete-Katten to their must-see list when visiting Stockholm!
